Sugar to blame for TWC powder scare

The Time Warner Cable office in Palm Springs was evacuated Friday morning after a white envelope with a suspicious powder was received.

According to the Palm Springs Fire Department, the powder turned out to be nothing more than sugar.

Police said an a TWC employee called them at about 10:30 a.m. to report that the suspicious envelope was found at their office, located at 440 S. El Cielo Road. The employee said they had evacuated the building as a precaution when they saw the unknown powder.

Hazmat crews from Riverside were called to investigate.

Once it was determined the substance wasn’t dangerous, the scene was cleared and the business reopened.

Police said there’s no reason to believe the envelope was accidentally sent to Time Warner. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Palm Springs Police Department at 760- 347-1441.
