CHP officer finds bone marrow match

There’s a positive match for California Highway Patrol Officer Keith Meter thanks to a CHP bone marrow drive.

Two years ago, Meter was a match for an 8-year-old girl in Orange County.

But further testing uncovered he too had cancer, needing a match of his own.

More than 40 offices hosted drives and about 2,300 people entered the “Be the Match” registry.

One anonymous person is now helping save the life of Meter, a 18-year veteran of the CHP in Orange County.

Meter began the transplant process Tuesday and will have transplant surgery next Wednesday at the City of Hope Hospital in Pasadena.
