Police say suspicious package is only empty lunchbox

An empty lunchbox is to blame for causing police to shut down a busy Palm Springs intersection near a school and park on Friday.

Just before 2:00 p.m. Friday, Palm Springs Police were called to Wellness Park at the corner of Tachevah Drive and Via Miraleste regarding a suspicious package.

Police shut down the intersection and nearby roadways while they investigated. They later determined the suspicious package was only a small cooler like lunchbox that was empty, and reopened the roadways around 3:15 p.m.

The park is near Katherine Finchy Elementary School, but there were no significant issues for the school, some parents were detoured for a short time while trying to pick up kids from school, but were always allowed access to the students.
