Police searching for two men in Desert Hot Springs

Officers with the California Highway Patrol were looking for two, African-American men in their mid-20s Sunday night after they fled during a routine traffic stop in an unincorporated area of Desert Hot Springs.

An official said the officers pulled a vehicle over near the intersection of Camino Campesino and Avenue Manzana just before 4:30 p.m. for a registration violation. There were three people inside. Two of the men ran into a neighboring field while the third man, only identified as a Hispanic male, was detained by police.

The initial search prompted a large response. The CHP, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, and Cathedral City and Desert Hot Springs Police Departments were called in to assist.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
