Woman speaks about rescue during flooding in Palm Springs
The woman who was rescued by a police officer after her car was caught in a flash flood Saturday afternoon speaks out about what happened.
Kris Hernandez and her son were driving back home after spending the day at the Children’s Discovery Museum in Palm Springs.
Hernandez says she avoided flooded roads in the area, and saw a car in front of her on Golf Club Drive going through the flooded road.
When she attempted to drive through the road, that’s when her vehicle got stuck and help had to be called.
Palm Springs’ Mayor Robert Moon was at the scene, as he was riding along with officers patrolling the area for stranded cars.
When officers arrived the car was submerged several feet underwater and was surrounded by fast rushing water.
Hernandez says she didn’t recognize the mayor during the rescue but wants to send her appreciation for his and the officer’s help.
Moments after the rescue, the car toppled off the bridge and was dragged down the wash.

“I want to say thank you and I appreciate him, I am happy that he and the officer came over to pick us up and save us from there.”
Hernandez, says her car was left at a total loss and her next step is to hear from the insurance company in order to buy a new car.
