Attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon charges were filed today against a 25-year-old probationer accused of attacking another man at a Palm Desert home earlier this month.
Antonio Hernandez Retana is accused of getting into a physical altercation with the victim — identified only as John Doe in the criminal complaint — at about 10:15 p.m. Jan. 12 in the 45400 block of Abronia Trail, a residential neighborhood just south of Highway 111.
Deputies responding to a “family disturbance” call arrested Retana at the home. His relationship to the victim, who was treated for undisclosed injuries at the scene, was not disclosed; sheriff’s Deputy Armando Munoz said only that the men were known to each other.
Deputies said the defendant was not armed with a weapon in the alleged attack.
The complaint filed Monday referenced Retana’s hands as the “deadly weapon” in question. He was released on bail, but re-arrested Jan. 24 for violating his probation in a previous case.
Retana was being held on $50,000 bail pending arraignment Tuesday morning on the latest charges.
