Yucca Valley toddler unconscious for hours after consuming THC
A three year old Yucca Valley girl who was found by a relative “in an altered state of consciousness,” tested positive for THC, the intoxicant component of cannabis, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s investigators.
“In my 18 years of law enforcement experience, I can say that it is highly uncommon for someone to have the kind of chemical reaction in which they would pass out from THC,” said Sgt. Marc Bracco.
Bracco said detectives were highly upset by this case, watching the child, who was unconscious for ten hours.
The child was taken by ambulance to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital on Aug. 22, and was eventually released from the hospital to a family member. However Bracco said it’s unknown what the long-term effects of the incident would be on the child.
Yaniece Marbury, 23, lived with the child, and was arrested the next day on suspicion of child cruelty. Marbury’s bail was set at $100,000 but given suspect’s lack of prior arrests, it was determined she had no prior arrests. Given this, said Bracco, Marbury was cite-released.
“The investigation did not reveal if the THC entered the system by inhale or ingestion,” said Bracco, who would not disclose the relationship between the child and Marbury in order to protect the victim.
San Bernardino County Children and Family Services (CFS) and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department – Morongo Station worked together to make the arrest.
