Cathedral City officers & firefighters help family who lost everything in Camp Fire

Members of the Cathedral City police and fire departments helped a family who had just relocated from Paradise, CA after losing their home during the Camp Fire.

The Camp Fire is the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in state history. Since it began November 8, the fire has destroyed almost 14,000 homes, 514 businesses, and 4,265 other buildings.

It covered more than 153,000 acres or roughly the size of Chicago. The town of Paradise in Northern California was destroyed. Most residents couldn’t find a place to stay, some had to live in their cars or set-up tents.

The family told officers they lost everything in the fire and only had a few household items. According to CCPD, upon learning of the family’s struggles, officers immediately gathered funds and purchased clothing, diapers, bedding, pillows, and toys for the two young boys. Firefighters gifted the family gift cards so they can buy groceries.

CCPD expressed thanks to everyone who helped provide some relief to the family.

Locally, there have been several efforts to collect donations and send them up to Northern California. A local 8th grader and her teacher collected donations of clothes, toiletries, and gift cards from the community. They packed up the donations nearly two weeks ago and drove up to the area to deliver them.
