Holocaust remembrance ceremony to be held at Civic Center Park
Monday is International Holocaust Remembrance Day -- a day set aside to remember the Holocaust’s many victims and to celebrate the legacy of those who survived.
There will be a ceremony at Civic Center Park in Palm Desert at 1 p.m. to reflect upon and remember the solemn chapter in history. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz Concentration camp. World leaders and other dignitaries are joining Holocaust survivors in remembering the anniversary at the camp itself.
People have been laying wreaths for victims at the camp’s execution wall. More than one million people died in Auschwitz, either in gas chambers, or from starvation or disease.
Remembrance ceremonies across the world come against the backdrop of rising anti-semitism. Survivors continue speaking out to remind the world to never forget what happened.
