Temperatures can climb quickly in a vehicle when it’s hot

Fire Caption Fernando Herrera with the Riverside County Fire Department and Cal Fire has a reminder during these extreme heat conditions. A temperature in a closed vehicle can drastically rise. He said the, "Fire department responds to a lot of vehicle lockouts and a lot of the times unfortunately, it’s parents, that we leave our kids behind in the vehicle. And there is no reason why you should leave either your pets or your children inside of a vehicle at anytime." If the outside temperature is 100°, in 10 minutes the car temperature climbs to 120° and in one hour can reach near 150°. Herrera added, "It doesn’t take a lot for small children, especially infants, for their body temperature to increase rapidly and start having a medical problem."

Always remember to look before you lock your car for children or pets. Stay safe in the heat!
