Deadly Deputy-involved shooting confirmed in Rancho Mirage
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is investigating a deadly deputy-involved shooting Friday afternoon in a residential neighborhood of Rancho Mirage.
The deputy-involved shooting happened on the 70800 block of Tamarisk Lane, a neighborhood behind the Sunnylands Estates. The shooting happened at 2:38 p.m.
Neighbors at the scene told News Channel 3's Jake Ingrassia they heard five shots ring out. One neighbor says authorities told him a deputy was stabbed and deputies then shot him.
A spokesperson with the Sheriff's Department later confirmed what neighbors had been told. A suspect armed with a knife stabbed a deputy, who was responding to a suspicious person call in the area.
The suspect is dead and the deputy was hospitalized and remain in stable condition.
