Mail delay? Growing concerns amid national postal service crisis

The national postal service crisis is fueling concerns for valley residents.   Some who have told us they have been waiting weeks for their mail.

Part-time Palm Springs resident, Sunny came by the post office to pick up her mail. 

“Well, I drove all the way from San Diego to check my mail because I have two homes one here and one there," said Sunny. "This is the second or third time coming no mail at all...nothing.” 

Sunny told us its worrisome. 

“Everything comes through the mail bank account checks, bills, everything," said Sunny. "So I don’t know what’s going on.” 

She’s not alone. 

“My complaint is that the mail I sent out, which is now 11 days past the due date has still not arrived to Dallas Fort Worth, Texas for my granddaughters and no seems to know where the package is," said Lewis Lobenfeld, from Palm Springs.

Lewis Lobenfeld told us he's been calling every day to see where his package could be ... but he's had no luck. 

“I get the same message that’s in transit so I am very frustrated because they receive three other packages, which were all sent the same day. They arrived. And this forth one, which is the most important one hasn’t arrived yet," said Lobenfeld.  

Not only are people worried about not getting their mail, an employee at the Post Office in Palm Springs told News Channel 3 that the AC in the back wasn't working at full capacity making it a bit difficult to work in this heat.

“oh my god, I can’t believe that," said Sunny. "How is that happening.”

We reached out to USPS for comment. They sent us this statement that reads in part: "The heat wave is taxing on the air conditioning unit. we currently have a repair crew at the post office working on it. We are also providing cold water and gatorade for our employees.” 

And as for mail concerns, here is that statement which reads in part: "The Palm Springs post office is current with all mail deliveries… if customers believe they are not receiving their mail then call 1-800-ASK-USPS.” 

“I used to be a mail man so I know what goes on in the mail and I am very confident that the postal service will get it delivered," said Lobenfeld.
