Border Patrol agents rescue 11 lost migrants found in Imperial County mountain
11 migrants from Nicaragua were rescued after becoming lost in a mountain area in Imperial County over the weekend.
The rescue happened shortly after midnight on Saturday in the Jacumba Wilderness region, west of Calexico.
The rescue came about after an individual from the group called 911 and stated the group was lost and needed assistance.
Border Patrol agents were notified of the distress call and responded to the last known GPS coordinates provided. The group was found shortly before 1:30 a.m., one mile north of the U.S./Mexico border, the agency revealed.
The lost individuals, all Nicaraguan nationals, were found to be safe and did not require medical attention.

Border Patrol agents verified that the 11 people did not possess the required documents to be present in the United States legally. The individuals were taken into custody and transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center to be processed accordingly.
Since October, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have successfully rescued 264 individuals who were lost, in distress, or abandoned by smugglers.
Last week, News Channel 3's Crystal Jiminez hiked alongside El Centro Border Patrol agents through those same smuggling routes to see the drastic measures migrants take amid dangerous heat.
