How to dispose of a real Christmas tree as trash pick ups begin in valley
Whether you're welcoming the new year with your Christmas tree or preparing to take it down soon, thousands across the Coachella Valley will have to dispose of their real trees in the coming weeks.
According to the Riverside County Department of Waste Resources, nearly 3 tons of trees will reach landfills this year.
Burrtec, the valley's largest waste collector, says starting December 26th, residents can arrange pick ups for their trees. The agency says trees should be undecorated and if taller than 6 feet, cut in half. Trees should be left curbside by 6 a.m.
Burrtec says lower desert homes pick ups will start from December 26th through January 12th.
For high desert areas like Twentynine Palms, pick ups will continue through January 5th.
If you'd like to drop off your tree at a waste facility, they are accepted at the Coachella Valley Compost Facility at 87011 Landfill Road, Unit A, Coachella 92336, or the Edom Hill Compost Facility at 70100 Edom Hill Road, Cathedral City 92234.
