Palm Springs Animal Shelter takes in shelter pets from Los Angeles County
As shelters throughout Los Angeles County become overcrowded due to an influx of displaced animals, the Palm Springs Animal Shelter has taken in 12 pets in need.
On Tuesday, the shelter welcomed 4 dogs, 4 puppies and 4 cats who were displaced by the wildfires in Los Angeles. These pets are now receiving medical exams, with some scheduled for spaying and neutering. The shelter will then focus on a plan for their next steps.
While the Palm Springs Animal Shelter is already operating over their capacity, and the additional intake of pets will put a strain on their resources. The shelter is urgently seeking fosters and adopters for the animals who are already in their system, so they can focus on transitioning the new arrivals into the shelter.
The Palm Springs Animal Shelter first offered assistance to Los Angeles County wildfire evacuees who need help with their pets. "If you've evacuated to the Palm Springs area with your pets, we're here to help,'' a shelter statement reads. "We're offering essential supplies like pet food, leashes, bowls, crates, beds and puppy pads -- available while supplies last."
The shelter, located at 4575 Mesquite Ave., will be open Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be reached at 760-416-5718.
