Mecca brush fire burn area changed to 13 acres with 92% containment; evacuation warning lifted

UPDATE: 7:21 p.m. - The evacuation warning for the area - zone RVC-2190-A - has been lifted for the fire.

Avenue 68 from Lincoln to Highway 111 remains closed.

Due to better mapping by CAL FIRE, the fire has been changed to 13 acres and is 92% contained. Crews will remain at scene mopping up and will patrol throughout the night and on Thursday.


MECCA, Calif. (KESQ) - A brush fire burned 25 acres in Mecca Wednesday, leading to evacuation orders for nearby residents early in the day that were downgraded to a warning by late afternoon.

The vegetation fire was burning near Lincoln Street and 68th Avenue. It was first reported just after 11:00 a.m.

Forward progress was stopped at 1:30 p.m.

CAL FIRE officials confirmed the blaze sparked a second fire near 64th Avenue and Grant Street.

An evacuation order was issued for zone RVC-2190-A; north of Avenue 69, south of Avenue 67, west of Lincoln Street, and east of Avenue 86.  The order was downgraded to a warning just before 4:30 p.m.
