California Surgeon General discusses treatment options for COVID-19
As California faces rising COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations due to multiple respiratory viruses, the state's top public health doctor has a message for anyone seeking COVID treatment.
Unlike in previous years, people now have safe and effective treatment options that can help with COVID symptoms. Most treatments are pills that can be taken at home, which can reduce the risk of hospitalization or death by up to 50 percent, but doctors say these treatments are underutilized especially in communities that have been hardest hit by COVID.
News Channel 3's Peter Daut spoke with California's Surgeon General Dr. Diana Ramos.
"Know that there are free test kits that are now being made available, by simply going onto covid.gov/tests folks can get up to four covid tests delivered to their homes, so that is handy when we go to those gatherings, remember to test yourself when you get back just make sure you're still healthy and don't have COVID," Ramos said.
"Often times folks are not aware that there is covid treatment, and more importantly that is accessible to them. So it's a matter of knowing treatment is there, and for folks who need it, the treatment is available," Ramos added.
