Weather Insider: The spring season is warming
Spring is the time of year when the weather starts to warm back up from winter. But spring now is significantly warmer than it was 50 years ago. The map below shows the average spring warming across the nation from 1970 to now. Nearly every inch of the country, minus the northern plains and northern Montana, is feeling these warmer temperatures.
Spring is actually the fastest warming season here in the Coachella Valley. Spring now is just shy of 3°F warmer compared to a few decades ago. This is more than the national average of 2.2° but less than the average for the Southwest at 3.3°. The southwest is actually the region experiencing the greatest warming.
It's not just temperatures either, the amount of days with warmer-than-usual conditions is greatly increasing as well. Here in the desert, we now have 19 more of these warmer days.
