First Alert Weather Alert: showers likely today
A First Alert Weather Alert has been issued ahead of an incoming storm system expected to bring rain, wind, and mountain snow to the region. Flash Flood Warnings remain in place along the Central California coast this morning as heavy rain moves onshore.
RAIN
Rain is currently set to arrive later this morning and last into the afternoon. The Coachella Valley could see around a quarter of an inch of rainfall in the West Valley, with lighter totals eastward.
A Flood Watch has been posted for the Inland Empire, local mountains, and the San Gorgonio Pass into the Northern Coachella Valley. Be prepared to take action should a warning be issued or if you encounter a flooded roadway. Turn around; don't drown.
WIND
A High Wind Warning is in effect for San Gorgonio Mountain and the Cajon Pass. Wind gusts in excess of 50 MPH will make travel difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. A Wind Advisory will take effect later this morning for desert locations including the high desert and the Coachella Valley, with our Wind Advisory in effect from 10 a.m. until midnight.
Following this round of incoming rain, drier and calmer conditions are expected through the end of the week. Another wave of moisture already looks possible by next weekend, but it's too soon to say how much of an impact it will have locally.
