First Alert Weather Alert: Second Day of Record Heat
The National Weather Service is keeping us under an Excessive Heat Warning until Wednesday evening at 8PM. Tuesday, temperatures as high as 118° were possible and Wednesday's high temperature could peak at 114°F.
Both yesterday and today, we tied the record high temperature for the day at 118°F in Palm Springs. Today, Thermal was one degree short of tying the record. A First Alert Weather Alert remains in place through 7PM this evening as well as we monitor near-record temperatures again today.
A strong ridge of high pressure remains over the desert Southwest. This is helping fuel the excessively high temperatures. Later in the week, a trough is expected to move further south and will help to push the ridge out of the region. This will usher in much cooler temperatures.
Temperatures will be excessively hot through Wednesday. Daily highs will drop significantly as we approach the weekend! They will stay cool as we head into next week. As a reminder, the average temperature for this time of year is 107°F so enjoy the mild temperatures while they last.
