911 system in Indio and Palm Springs working again
911 is back up and running after an overnight outage in Palm Springs and Indio.
Police agencies in the cities of Palm Springs and Indio reported problems with the 911 emergency call system early Friday morning.
The City of Palm Springs 9-1-1 Dispatch Center and over a dozen other area 9-1-1 centers across Riverside County began not getting 9-1-1 calls from cellular phones around midnight. The outage did not affect landlines and the non-emergency lines. At approximately 3:30 AM, the entire 9-1-1 system was operational again.
The cause of the outage was believed to be due to a power outage at a telecommunications site that covers this region.
In Palm Springs, people in need of police were asked to dial: (760) 327-1441.
In Indio, callers unable to reach 911 from cell phones should instead call the city’s emergency number: (760) 775-3730.
In Indio, dispatchers were receiving 911 calls from landlines and some wireless carriers.
