Palm Springs Police Chief shares new plan to address homelessness
Palm Springs Police Chief Andrew Mills shared a new plan he's calling to address homelessness in the city.
Mills said it'll be compassionate but persistent enforcement of the law for people who act inappropriately in the community.
"Operation Relentless Sun" is a 3-part plan. The first step is counting and understanding the depth of the homeless problem. The second step 2 offering people resources at every encounter.
"And the third is relentless is that we are going to enforce the law. And for those who choose to throw bricks through the windows at Starbucks, or break into buildings, or steal bikes, we will be relentless in our efforts to make sure that they're held accountable to the justice system, we can only do our part," Mills said.
Mills said the department has identified some of the homeless people causing trouble in the community. He said officers will treat people compassionately and they'll wear body-worn cameras.
The plan will take effect on February 1.
