State offers $25 million grant for medium and heavy-duty electric vehicle charging infrastructure

The state is funding $25 million in incentives for zero-emissions commercial vehicles.

California Energy Commission (CEC) and CALSTART are behind the incentive program called the Energy Infrastructure Incentives for Zero-Emission Commercial Vehicles or EnergIIZE.

CALSTART is a nonprofit that focuses on overcoming barriers to adopting clean vehicles and modernizing the transportation industry.

EnergIIZE Commercial Vehicles is part of a CEC block grant initiative that provides incentives for infrastructure development targeting battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicle technologies. The project encompasses a wide spectrum of beneficiaries, ranging from public and private fleets to owners/operators, school bus fleets, transit agencies, and public charging sites.

The EnergIIZE Project's EV Jump Start funding lane aims to support up to 75 percent of eligible infrastructure equipment and software expenses for projects valued at a maximum of $750,000.

This initiative includes various costs that are eligible for reimbursement, including Level 2 electric vehicle supply equipment, DC Fast-Charge EVSE, charge management software, switchgears, electrical panel upgrades, wiring, conduit, and meters.

Prospective applicants for the funding opportunity include:

• Tribes
• Schools in low-income communities
• Small businesses
• Minority-owned businesses
• Medium- to heavy-duty vehicle transit fleets in low-income communities
• Non-profit organizations

"We are thrilled to once again unveil this funding lane to California fleets and are optimistic that the enhanced funding will attract a wave of new applicants from across the state," said the Director of Infrastructure Incentive Administration at CALSTART, Alyssa Haerle.
