Special Olympics Southern California and ACEing Autism programs returning to the valley
SoCal Adaptive Sports is collaborating with Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) and ACEing Autism to bring more adaptive sports to the valley this fall.
“These are national organizations. I think it's really positive for the valley, that we're now able to work with them," said Michael Rosenkrantz, the Executive Director of SoCal Adaptive Sports.
SoCal Adaptive Sports is a regional organization that works to collaborate with public and private organizations to provide more sporting opportunities for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities.
SoCal Adaptive Sports has also partnered with the following organizations:
-Desert Recreation District Adaptive
- CVUSD
-Friends of the Desert Mountains
-Olive Tree Occupational Therapy
-Desert ARC
-Variety of the Desert
-Berger Foundation Iceplex
-Robin Hood Archery
Rosenkrantz says SoCal Adaptive Sports' latest partnership represents a valley-wide push towards creating more inclusive spaces.
“People with disabilities want to have the same opportunities as anybody else in life. Whether it's sports, whether it's art, or music," said Rosenkrantz.
Registration has already begun for tennis and pickleball lessons that will be taught by the trained coaches who will track the progress of participants.
These lessons are set to begin October 18. at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage.
You can find more registration information here.
Rosenkrantz says that volunteers are also needed ahead of the program’s mid-October start date.
“The more people that work with people with disabilities or know about people disabilities, the more we can continue to grow this community," said Rosenkrantz.
