A mild Saturday with changes on the way
Temperatures this afternoon will stay above the seasonal normal of 71°. Southern California still remains under a ridge of high pressure, keeping temperatures warm, yet comfortable.
Things begin to change heading into Sunday night. A trough of low pressure moves down from the north bringing cooler air, areas of gusty onshore winds, and rain chances to the Coachella Valley.
Rain amounts will be light for the region. We are expecting amounts between 0.10 -0.25 inches. Snow levels will be between 3,000 to 4,000 ft. A Winter Weather Advisory is likely to be issued from the National Weather Service within the next day.
As for temperatures, above average today with a dip Sunday and Monday. Keep those jackets on hand with high's back in the 60s.
Tonight, you can also catch a glimpse of the February full moon. Some also consider this to be the first supermoon of 2020. This moon is called the Snow Moon. Other names include Hunger Moon or Storm Moon. It will be completely full tonight at 11:33 p.m. but has appeared full since Friday and will continue to appear full throughout the weekend.
The term "supermoon" is when moon's orbit is closest to Earth at the same time the moon is full. Supermoons appear slightly brighter and larger than a standard full moon. By definition of distance for a supermoon, some will argue this moon is too far to be considered a supermoon. The next official supermoon will be March 9th.
