$2.5 Million In Narcotics Confiscated By Border Patrol

U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Highway 86 inspection station arrested two suspected smugglers in separate incidents last Friday and seized more than $2.55 million worth of illegal drugs.

Agents said the first arrest happened at 4:50 p.m., after a canine team’s inspection of a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu sent it to a second inspection.

They later conducted a thorough inspection, which revealed a hidden compartment with 11 packages of cocaine, which was worth about $880,000.

Later that day at approximately 10:45 p.m., a 2004 Honda Accord occupied by a 42-year-old male Mexican national, his adult son and juvenile daughter also went through a second inspection.

Agents discovered 42 vacuum-sealed packages of methamphetamine hidden throughout carved-out compartments. The 52 pounds found had a street value of more than $1.67 million.

Suspects in both cases were arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, along with the vehicles and narcotics
