City leaders break ground on Indio hotel development
Indio city officials and developers broke ground today on a Holiday Inn, the city’s first hotel in more than 25 years.
The groundbreaking is set for 11 a.m. at 84-096 Indio Springs Drive.
Developer Howard Parks anticipates the planned 89-room hotel being operational in about nine months, city spokesman Chris Escobedo said.
“The development of a new hotel will serve as a driving force for investment, job creation, and new opportunities for our city,” Indio Mayor Elaine Holmes said. “The addition of a new hotel will boost city revenues through the collection of transient occupancy tax of guests who will stay overnight in the hotel.”
Park will join Indio city officials and members of the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership, Coachella Valley Enterprise Zone, Indio Chamber of Commerce and Cabazon Band of Mission Indians at the groundbreaking late this morning, Escobedo said.
