I-10 bridge replacement on schedule

Plans have been approved to build a new bridge for the eastbound lanes over the Tex Wash near Desert Center.

The bridge was destroyed in July during a summer storm.

The collapse shut down the freeway for 5 days before a temporary solution was ready to go.

Currently traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction over the westbound bridge.

Traffic can be slow at this bottle neck at times, especially on weekend evenings.

The bridge is expected to be rebuilt and ready for traffic by the end of September.

Officials with Caltrans said the I-10 bridge repair near Desert Center is expected to cost around $5 million.
