Martha’s Village & Kitchen to give away 125 turkeys
Officials with Martha’s Village and Kitchen will distribute 125 turkeys at the monthly USDA Food Distribution on Wednesday, December 16, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Organizers said turkeys will be available for the first to arrive and is limited to one turkey per household. Martha’s Kitchen and Village is located at 83791 Date Avenue in Indio.
On the third Wednesday of each month, volunteers at Martha’s distribute nutritional emergency food boxes to the homeless and impoverished members of the community, officials said in a release.
Distributions consist of fresh vegetables, rice, beans, canned goods and other essentials such as infant supplies, toothbrushes, hygiene products, etc.
Officials said in the United States, 46.5 million people and 1 in 7 adults experience food insecurity. Food insecure households are on the rise and families often choose between paying for bills and purchasing nutritious food.
For the chronically food insecure, the holidays are even more difficult as there are more expenses than normal. Based on the generosity of donors this holiday season, Martha’s is excited to provide 125 turkeys at this month’s food distribution to those in need, according to the release.
