Crews contain brush fire after 35 acres charred in Reche Canyon

Firefighters have contained a brush fire in Reche Canyon, just north of Moreno Valley, which charred 35 acres Sunday, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

The blaze broke out near the intersection of Reche Canyon and Smiley Boulevard about 4:12 p.m., according to fire department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

A total of 105 firefighters, one water dropping helicopter, four air tankers and 13 engine companies were dispatched to fight the blaze, Hagemann said.

As of 5:45 p.m. firefighters stopped the forward progress of the fire and the air tankers were released, Hagemann continued.

Crews reported the fire was fully contained just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters will remain at the scene for several hours to do mop-up on the brush fire.

No injuries were reported, Hagemann added.
