Palm Springs Dog Park Closed For Repairs

The dog park behind City Hall will be closed for three days beginning today as workers perform needed maintenance, a city official said.

The large Palm Springs Dog Park area will be closed through Thursday, while the small dog park will only be closed today, city spokeswoman Amy Blaisdell said.

Maintenance is required to fix damaged sidewalks and bricks and trim trees, she said. The damage is a result of tree roots that have risen up, breaking parts of the sidewalk.

“This work will ensure the park is maintained in a safe and usable condition for our residents and their four-legged friends,” said David Barakian, director of public works and engineering.

A group of residents also want the city to re-sod some of the brown grass in the park. They’re working with the city to raise money for the improvements.

“Like all cities right now, (Palm Springs) is fighting a little budget issue. So we’re hoping people get involved and put some money into it and get it back to it’s beautiful self,” said Stuart Cochrane, a member of the group.

Cochrane said the group with met with maintenance crews on Saturday to discuss the installation costs and time frame.

Assistant City Manager Tom Wilson said the sod could be laid as early as spring.
