One man is behind bars, accused of burglarizing a home in Palm Springs.

It happened about 1:30 Saturday afternoon on the 2700 block of North Via Miraleste near the downtown area.

The homeowner told police he saw a man stealing his bike from his garage. He went outside to confront the suspect, but he took off. The homeowner was not able to catch the man.

Later, police searched the area, spotting the suspect at the intersection of Vista Chino and Indian Canyon. The suspect took off running. He jumped the wall into the Desert Sun Resort. Police later found him inside that resort.

The stolen bicycle was returned to its rightful owner. Fidel Benavidez, 29, of Palm Springs, was taken to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, where he was booked for burglary and obstructing/delaying a peace officer.
