Desert Group Launches Emergency Protest On Debt Ceiling Talks
About 20 people turned out to protest the on-going negotiations in Washington concerning the nation’s debt limit on Tuesday in Palm Desert.
Members of the group MoveOn.org had called for the noon-time protest at Rep. Bono Mack’s desert offices, even though the congresswoman was in Washington, D.C.
“With the deadline to raise the nation’s debt ceiling just a week away, it has become clear that Bono Mack and the other republicans in congress are more interested in scoring political points than fixing our nation’s economic problems,” said organizer Robert Crutchfield.
“Instead of supporting a balanced approach to solving the budget problems, Republicans in Washington are demanding deep cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and making no effort to ensure corporations and millionaires pay their fair share,” he said.
A spokesperson from Bono Mack’s office was expected to make some kind of statement, this afternoon.
