Palm Springs Airport Opens Economy Lot

This week is one of the busiest travel times of the year and some airports across the country are expected to have more travelers than others.

The Palm Springs International Airport opened up their economy parking lot Tuesday morning to offer long-term parking for a cheaper rate.

Some people are getting ready to travel but they’re doing it early to beat the rush.

Gueta Mezzetti is traveling to Washington, D.C.

“I’m anxious to beat the holiday traffic. I really don’t want to be held up at the delays at the airport and things like that,” said Mezzetti.

Ron Glosser is visiting his son in Seattle and wanted to get a head start.

“Tomorrow will get very, very busy, so we’re sort of being kind to ourselves,” said Glosser.

Travel website Orbitz says Los Angeles International Airport will be the nation’s busiest this week followed by Chicago O’hare and Orlando International.

“Don’t fly through Chicago because you’re sure to be delayed,” said Mezzetti.

Residents traveling from Palm Springs International Airport now have the option of leaving their vehicles at the economy lot overnight at a much better rate.

Randy Englund is a parking attendant at the airport.

“We offer this $6 rate compared to our long-term parking which is $8 per day. We also provide a free shuttle service to and from the terminal so they don’t have to worry about walking so far to get to their plane and get to where their destination is,” said Englund.

Glosser said he enjoyed the service.

“It’s just wonderful, you know? They picked us up right at the car, dropped us off right here. It’s just the “ultimate,” he said.

And even though some of the holiday stress is unavoidable, the economy lot is making their travels a little easier.

Glosser said he would use it again.

“It’s a wonderful rate for the kind of service they provide,” said Glosser.

The economy parking lot is open to the public from 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and until 7 p.m. on Friday. Shuttles are available to assist travelers until midnight ending Nov. 29.
