Palm Desert man in hospital after slamming into semi on Interstate 10
A 35-year-old Palm Desert man is in the hospital with life threatening injuries after slamming his blue Volvo into the back of a semi-truck this morning.
Around 8 a.m., the man was speeding past Whitewater rest area on the westbound I-10. As he tried to change lanes in an attempt to avoid slower traffic, he collided with a black Hyundai Elantra being driven by a 57-year-old woman from Yucca Valley.
The woman was pushed into the center median, but was not hurt.
After making contact with the Hyundai, the man swerved right and slammed into the back of a semi-truck that was merging onto the freeway. The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt.
The crash pinned the Volvo underneath the semi andcausedlife threatening to the driver, who was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center.
California Highway Patrol has not ruled out drugs or alcohol as a contributing factor.
