Magnitude 4.7 quake felt in the Coachella Valley

The US Geological Survey reported a magnitude 4.7 earthquake centered near Anzajust before 10 a.m. Monday. There were noimmediatereports of damage or injuries.

The quake was initially reported as a magnitude-5.2, but was repeatedly downgraded as more accurate measurements became available and seismologists analyzed their data.

The magnitude-4.7 earthquake hit at 9:56 a.m. A 2.7 magnitude fore shockwas recorded in the same area 20 minutes earlier.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Corporal Angel Ramos said deputies receivedseveral alarm calls from residences and businesses, but no injuries werereported. No power outages were reported, according to Southern CaliforniaEdison.

The earthquakes were located 13 miles East Southeast of Anza, 16 miles from La Quinta, 17 miles from Palm Desert, 23 miles from Palm Springs, and 23 miles from San Diego.

It was felt around the Coachella Valley and from Los Angeles to San Diego.
