Palm Springs Art Museum evacuated

Today, at around 12:25 PM, Palm Springs police received a report of two suspicious packages at the Palm Springs Art Museum.

One package was located inside the museum and one was located outside the museum. The museum was evacuated as a precautionary measure and Museum Drive was closed between Tahquitz Canyon Way and the north Palm Springs Art Museum parking lot. Tahquitz Canyon Way was also closed in the area around the museum.

The Hazardous Device Team responded to the location, investigated the packages, and determined that they did not present any type of danger.

The packages did not contain any type of hazardous device and whoever left the packages did not appear to have any criminal intent. Themuseumreopened at about 4:15 PM.

People who had their cars parked in the museum’s parking lot were not able to retrieve their vehicles during the incident and local artists with work on display today were asked to pack up and leave.

Themuseumplanned to host a free museum night tonight but hascancelledthe event.

The museum will reopentomorrowat 10 A.M..
