Cahuilla Desert Acadamy put on lockdown this morning after gun scare

Cahuilla Desert Academy was taken off lockdown around 10:30 this morning after officers searched the school and did not find a gun. Classes resumed when police finished their search, but officers remained at the school while they continued to investigate the incident.

Cahuilla Desert Academy in Coachella was locked downthis morning while deputies investigated reports that a student had a gun andpossibly threatened to commit suicide, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Authorities were contacted at around 9:10 a.m. and went to search theschool at 82489 Avenue 52. Sheriff’s Deputy Albert Martinez said there was areport of a student making a possible suicide threat and “secondhand”information that the student had a gun.
