Golf Tournament raises awareness for prostate cancer

The fourth annual Art Bowman Memorial Golf Tournament will be held in Palm Desert today to benefit support and outreach programs for a local cancer center.

The tournament, which starts at 7:30 a.m. at the Oasis Country Club,supports the Arnold Palmer Prostate Cancer Center at Eisenhower Lucy CurciCancer Center.

Bowman was an original homeowner at the country club and founder of itsMen’s Golf Club. He died of prostate cancer two years after the tournamentstarted.

The tournament will be played in a four-person scramble format andfeature contests and prizes. The tournament will be followed by lunch, a raffleand silent auction.

“This day of golf is not only an enjoyable annual event for our membersand guests, but it also supports an important local resource,” said PaulRustigan, president of the Oasis Men’s Golf Club. “Last year we raised morethan $9,000 and our goal is to surpass that this year.”

The $75 per-person cost includes golf, lunch and prizes.
