Fire breaks out on train in Cabazon

A fire broke out in a train engine in Cabazon Wednesday night, but no one was injured.

The fire, which was reported at 9:40 p.m. south of Tamarack Road and Rushmore Avenue, was contained to the engine’s air compressor in just under one hour, said Mark Annas of the Riverside County Fire Department.

The blaze caused about $250,000 in damage to the $2.5 million engine, Annas said.

A hazmat crew from the Riverside County Fire Department was among the 26 firefighters who responded to the fire, he said.
