Man hits pickup truck, crashes into tree
An allegedly alcohol-impaired driver who fled after hitting a pickup truck only to crash into a tree in Coachella was released from jail today.
Pedro Manzo Angon, 22, of Coachella, was arrested just after 9 p.m. Thursday after he drove an SUV into a pickup at the intersection of Avenue 50 and Harrison Street and then slammed into a tree at the corner of Avenue 50 and Avenida De Platina, said Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Ramirez.
He was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and driving while impaired by alcohol, Ramirez said.
Angon was initially taken to a hospital for “precautionary medical treatment,” he said, but it was unclear if he was injured. No one else was hurt in the crashes.
Angon was booked at the county jail in Indio late Thursday and released today, according to jail records.
