CHP Officer will not face charges in the shooting death of Robert Shirar

A local CHP officer who shot and killed a man on Interstate 10 last year will not face criminal charges. 32-year old Robert Shirar was shot seven times on May 21, 2012 shortly after crashing his truck on the I-10 in Indio. According to the Riverside County District Attorney’s office spokesperson, “It was determined that there was no evidence of any criminal liability on the part of the officer.”

The case was handled by the District Attorney’s office in mid June, after Indio police completed their investigation. It is not known what led up to the shooting, but according to reports Shirar was not armed.
