Border busts lead to recovery of narcotics with street value of $1.5 million
Authorities say they have arrested two men suspected of smuggling $1.5 million in heroin and marijuana during stops at two locations along the U.S.-Mexico border.
U-T San Diego reports a 46-year-old man was arrested after Customs and Border Protection officers found 24 packages of heroin found in a hidden compartment inside a pickup truck at the San Ysidro port of entry. The heroin was worth about $1.3 million.
Authorities also say a 29-year-old trucker hauling squash was arrested this week after they found 37 packages of marijuana worth more than $220,000 hidden among the cardboard boxes of vegetables at the Otay Mesa border entry.
