Multiple DUI & driver’s license checkpoints planned for the Coachella Valley

Several law enforcement agencies will staff DUI and driver’s license checkpoints in the Coachella Valley in the next several days, starting tonight.

Palm Springs police officers will be at a checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the city from 9 tonight to 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Riverside County sheriff’s deputies will staff a checkpoint from 7 tonight to 2:30 a.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Saturday to 2:30 a.m. Sunday in Coachella.

California Highway Patrol officers will be stationed at a checkpoint from 10 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday in the Coachella Valley.

Additionally, extra sheriff’s deputies are patrolling Palm Desert, Indian Wells and Rancho Mirage for alcohol and drug-impaired drivers through Jan. 5. A checkpoint also is planned in Palm Desert on Dec. 31, according to the sheriff’s department.

Most checkpoints are funded by grants from the California Office of
Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
