Woman busted with 8.8 lbs. of meth by Border Patrol

A 21 year old woman was arrested after El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents found over $57,000 worth of methamphetamine hidden in the SUV she was driving.

The suspected narcotics smuggler was stopped around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Highway 86 checkpoint.

Agents said they searched the SUV after a K9 alerted them to the vehicle.

While inspecting the car, authorities found nine individually wrapped packages of meth hidden inside a compartment underneath the floorboard behind the back seat, they said in a release.

The drugs weighed 8.8 lbs and are estimated to be worth $57,200.

The woman, who is a U.S. citizen, was taken into custody and the vehicle and narcotics were turned over to the DEA.

The investigation is ongoing.
