Police chase ended in Palmdale
The driver of a pick-up truck that led police on a chase from Northridge to Quartz Hill, surrendered Monday night after more than a half-hour standoff.
The chase began shortly after 5 p.m., when police wanted to pull the driver over for reckless driving.
The chase ended up on the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway near Chatsworth — headed westbound toward Simi Valley.
Then he went on the eastbound freeway to the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway, taking it to the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway, reaching speeds up to 135 mph on still rain-slicked freeways, sometimes on the median.
For a while, both the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles Police Department were trailing him only in helicopters.
The chase reached Palmdale about an hour later where the driver lost control and a CHP vehicle hit him from behind as he began swerving.
The driver also drove into a gated community where a female passenger jumped out and was later taken into custody.
At Avenue 25 and Rancho Vista Boulevard in Quartz Hill, the truck collided with a small car, and deputies and CHP officers closed in right behind him.
The father and daughter in the car were not injured.
Law enforcement gathered their resources, including a police dog, behind them.
After about a half-hour, he came out of the truck, surrendering shortly before 7 p.m. Monday.
