Stubborn attic fire causes $750K damage to La Quinta home

Firefighters have fully contained a fire that sparked in the attic of a La Quinta home on Wednesday morning.

Officials said the fire ignited in the Rancho La Quinta Country Club shortly after 11 a.m. The house is located in the 49300 block of Montana Way.

Heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the home when fire crews arrived to the scene. Viewers also reported seeing heavy smoke from Highway 111 and Washington Street.

According to officials, the fire was contained by 2:30 p.m. It took firefighters a few hours to completely douse the flames due to the large square-footage of the home and because there were a lot of areas in the attic that posed problems.

The house is 4,200 square-feet and officials said the fire caused $750,000 in damage. Firefighters were able to prevent damage to the majority of the home; saving $850,000.

Cal Fire officials said nobody was home at the time of the fire.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will deliver more details as soon as they’re available.
