Joe’s Barber Shop of Indio named 2015 small business of the year
One long standing Indio Barber Shop is being honored for being a cut above the rest.
Joe’s Barber Shop was presented with the 2015 Small Business of the Year Award by the 56th Assembly District.
Joe Pinedo has owned Joe’s Barber Shop for more than 44 years
But his passion for cutting hair began early on.
“It started back out of high school and I knew I had to get a job. So I decided to go to barber college. And I really enjoyed cutting hair,” Pinedo said.
Years of hard work and excellent customer service are some of the many reasons Joe’s got selected as the 2015 Small Business of the Year.
“The secret, I think, is taking care of the customers and giving them the service and that’s what they want,” Pinedo said.
Pinedo, a graduate of Coachella Valley High School, makes sure to remain active in the community by sponsoring high school football and basketball teams.
In an industry that’s mainly dominated by men, Pinedo is continuing his legacy by bringing some serious girl power to his shop.
Two of his daughters work as barbers and even one of his granddaughters took up the trade.
“It means a lot to me. My dad has worked really hard for what he has and I want to continue after he leaves to have a good business,” his daughter Linda Pinedo said.
His customers span generations as well.
Les Wilberding has been coming to Joe’s for almost eight years now and said he has complete trust in Pinedo .
“One of the reasons I like haircuts here is because Joe’s is one of the only places that still straight trims around your ears with a straight razor. And that’s the best part of my haircut and I trust Joe with that razor,” Wilberding said.
Just another reason why this old time store is a downtown staple.
