Limited info released after Coachella standoff

We’re still waiting for more information regarding the hours-long standoff in Coachella on Thursday night.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department was assisting the U.S. Marshal’s Service to serve a search warrant in the area of Vine Avenue and Seventh Street, near Palm Elementary School, according to officials.

Viewers said they began seeing police activity around 7:30 p.m.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 spoke to neighbors at the scene and they said they heard police asking for two men to come out of the house. They said police had a family member of the suspects get on a loud speaker to ask them to come out as well.

The operation shut down Vine Avenue between Sixth Street and Ninth Street, and Eighth Street between Grapefruit Boulevard and Orchard Street was also closed to traffic. All roads are now back open.

Deputy Armando Munoz tells CBS Local 2/KESQ that the Department of Justice is handling the case and no more information is being released at this time.
