Some will be without power for most of Friday after storm
Thursday night’s storm caused some big problems in Palm Desert. Residents are scouring through damage after wind toppled trees, downed power lines and left a trail of debris throughout neighborhood streets.
Multiple road closures are in place due to flooding and there were more than 3,000 Southern California Edison customers without power.
The following roads are closed in Palm Desert:
Florida Avenue at Tennessee Avenue (eastbound lanes)
California Avenue east of Warner Trail (eastbound lanes)
Michigan Avenue west of Warner Trail (both directions)
Warner Trail at Michigan Avenue (full intersection closure)
California Avenue at Florida Avenue (full intersection closure)
California Avenue at Tenneessee Avenue (westbound lanes)
Illinois Avenue at Florida Avenue (full intersection closure)
Indiana Avenue at Elkhorn Trail (full intersection closure)
Illinois Avenue at Elkhorn Trail (full intersection closure)
125 SCE customers remained without power Friday morning in the Palm Desert area because of downed lines and other storm damage.
Edison expects most service to be restored tonight by 8:20 p.m.
55 SCE customers were still without power in Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms Friday morning because of storm damage.
Edison expects most service to be restored between 12 noon and 3 p.m.

The Joslyn Center and the Palm Desert Community Center are the official Cool Centers in Palm Desert (the Palm Desert Public Library and the Westfield Mall have been other comfortable, climate controlled places where people have gone in the past to escape the heat).
The Joslyn Center closes at 4 p.m. Friday. The Palm Desert Community Center, which is typically open until 9 p.m. on Fridays, is ready to extend its hours tonight in case power has not been restored to all homes affected by the storm related outages.
Power lines were down on Warner Trail south of Hovely Lane in the Palm Desert Country Club after a witness said lightning struck a power pole.
The lines fell on top of a car. Witnesses said the driver was able to make it out safely.
Warner Trail was closed in that area and there was debris on all surrounding roads along with localized street flooding.
Viewers told us Elkhorn Trail in the Palm Desert Country Club was cluttered with debris and you couldn’t even drive down New York Avenue by the clubhouse because two huge trees were uprooted.
Fred Waring Drive was also closed between El Dorado and Warner Trail in Indian Wells due to flooded roadways and downed trees.
The weather began to make its way into the Coachella Valley around 8 p.m. after some heavy rain hit the High Desert earlier in the day.
Anyone looking toward the sky saw a massive lightning show toward the eastern valley. Hundreds of viewers snapped photos to capture the storm and shared them with us.
